How to Host a Masquerade Ball
If you want to host a masquerade event, the first thing you need to decide is whether you want a ball or a party. A ball is notoriously more formal, usually requiring a rented location. It’s usually not something that you can host in your apartment and has a much bigger list of attendees.
A masquerade party is much more casual which makes for more exciting masks and costumes. You can host a masquerade party with only 20 to 25 people and pull it off in someone’s house. The dress code is much less formal so the attendees can be a little more crazy with putting their masquerade costumes together. Since a party requires little more than notifying your guest list to wear a masquerade mask and perhaps a costume, I’m going to focus this article on hosting a ball.
The first thing that needs done is a location needs to be reserved. To do this successfully, you’ll need to know approximately how many people will be attending. To figure this out, create a list of everyone you want to invite and divide by two. Unfortunately, most people will be busy or not be interested. Then begin searching for locations that can handle that amount of people. The cost of reservation will likely be a lot less on a week night, but it will be harder to guests to attend.
Once a reservation is made, you need to send out invitations. Make sure to list the date, time, and location in addition to the masquerade ball theme. If a dress code is required, which is common for any type of ball, make sure to list how formal the guests should be. Especially note that masquerade masks are mandatory or people will try to sneak in without them. Since the disguises are what really make the party interesting, it is crucial that all of the guests are aware of the mandatory mask rule.
