How to Make Masquerade Ball Masks
Making your own mask for a masquerade ball is really an easy and fun thing to do. Much like any craft, you get to exercise your creative muscle while making a satisfying end result. The steps to make your mask are outlined below. There are a few things you’ll need like glue, a plain mask, markers, and accessories. Here’s how you do it:
Start with plain masquerade masks. These can be found in any kind of costume store or quirky gifts store. If you don’t think you can find one locally, you can order one online for pretty cheap. I would actually recommend purchasing two or three if you can get a good deal so that you have room to experiment or make a mistake. The most common color is white, which is satisfactory since we’ll be fancying it up. But, if you know you want your mask to be another color, go ahead and buy it. It’s easier to start with a pink mask than to start with a white mask and try to make it pink.
Gather the accessories that you want to add. Most masquerade masks have shiny sequins and other small decorations on them. If you want your mask to be more ‘over the top’, you can get some colorful feathers to add. Keep in mind when acquiring your treasure of decorations that you’ll probably want to have a color theme. Masks usually look good with one or two main colors, with some small accents of other colors.
Gather your construction materials and prepare to create! You’ll likely need glue to attach your decorations and feathers. It doesn’t have to be the best glue, but regular school glue may not hold on a bulky feather. If your plain mask didn’t come with a holding stick or string you will need to gather on of those; you have to keep the mask on your face somehow! If you want to add color or fun patterns, find some markers and construction paper too.
Begin your design by adding the base pattern and colors to the mask. Adding the colors and design to the mask before adding on the extra decoration is usually the best idea. If you’ve got a steady hand, using markers to draw some elegant line patterns can really add a lot to a mask design. Or if you would prefer, cut out a pattern of construction paper and glue it to the mask.
Once you’ve got the base pattern finished, start adding your extra decorations. Be creative and imaginative. There is no wrong way to do it, so go wild.
If you’re ready to begin, take a look at the plain masquerade masks sold at Amazon. Although slightly higher in cost, they have high quality plain masks in white, black, silver, and other colors.
