Masquerade Invitations

One of the biggest concerns of the hosts of masquerade events is figuring out the masquerade invitations. People are familiar with standard party invitations and what should be included. However, when it comes to a masquerade themed party, extra information needs to be included so that the guests understand what is required of them. If everyone shows up in jeans and doesn’t wear a mask, then it is just your standard weekend party, so you have to make sure that everyone understands the rules and dress code. The invitation is the perfect place to address these issues.

Obviously the invitations need to include the basic party information such as the date, time, and location. You also need to clearly state that the gathering is a masquerade very clearly. Usually it is best to include this as a headline on the invite. It could say something like “You’re Invited to Attend a Masquerade Party!” If not, then you need to include a separate line on the invitation that specifies the theme for the party.

Once you have the basic information included, you need to figure out a good way to include the special rules. You can do this in several ways. One idea is to simply have a line that lists the various rules and requirements for guests. This is somewhat boring however and it can overwhelm guests when they are presented everything all at once.

A better idea is to break everything up as much as possible. Include a line that specifies the dress code. After that, explain that every guest needs to have a masquerade mask that attempts to conceal their identity. If they guests need to bring something or need to do something else, then include that in the section as well.

People seem to be moving away from the old method of RSVPing. You should definitely include your phone number on the invitation so that people can clarify the rules of the party however. If you need to get a head count, you could try something like creating an event of Facebook and inviting people that way in addition to sending out mail invitations. People are much more likely to click on the attend button than take the extra time to specially respond to your invitation because it is a lot more convenient.

Unless you need fancy or formal invitations, you can probably just print them out on your home printer. The invitation doesn’t have to be amazing, it just needs to deliver the correct information to the appropriate guests. Local printing stores should be able to help you if you want to include fancier graphics or use nicer cardstock.
